A Perfectly Lazy Saturday (with Organic Flatbread Pizza)

IMG_1624Today was a perfectly lazy Saturday.  Originally, I had a few plans, but when I woke up to the pouring rain, I instantly knew that I wasn’t going to get much done.  And then there’s that bit about last night.

Last night was fantastic.  I had dinner with seven fabulous women at Aquavit, a restaurant in midtown NYC.  We had a delicious, multi-course meal, with each course accompanied by a different, perfect wine.  Lots of wine. Dinner started at 7p and ended around 1a.

I was wide awake when I got home and stayed up until around 4a doing this-and-that.  So when I woke up 5 hours later with that fuzzy feeling, I immediately recognized that I was a bit hungover.  Pair that with the steady rain and you’ll understand why I didn’t make it to yoga class nor the grocery store…nor any of the other errands I had planned.

I dragged the dog down the street in the rain (he hates walking in the rain) and hurried back home.  I spent the next few hours in bed with the New York Times, listening to the rain, and dozing between sections.  Life was good.

That half-here-half-not hungover feeling didn’t start to go away until about 5p, American Flatbread 5 Cheese w: Tomatoat which time I realized I was hungry.  Given the way I indulged last night, I probably should have had a salad, but nobody feeds a hangover with salad.  Then I remembered that I had agreed to participate in a promotion for American Flatbread Pizza and I had two of them in my freezer.  Pizza was exactly what I wanted because pizza goes perfect with a hangover.

I had the Sliced Tomato & Cheese and was pleasantly surprised that it was nothing like what I typically think of frozen pizza (which is not very good.) This was quite tasty and was just what I needed to finally get moving.

Here’s what they’d like me to say…which isn’t hard to do because this stuff is pretty good:

  • All American Flatbread frozen pizzas are made with a 100% organically grown wheat crust and topped with fresh herbs, vegetables and the finest of cheeses. They’re all-natural, with no preservatives, artificial colors or flavors, and handcrafted from scratch, hand-formed, and par-baked in wood-fired ovens.
  • American Flatbread is a market leader in natural frozen flatbread pizzas and available in supermarkets, health, and gourmet stores nationwide. Truly nutritious, light, crisp, and flavorful — convenience without compromise – American Flatbread pizzas are honestly delicious.
  • Three new varieties of AFB are now joining the family! Farmers Tomato Pie – A dairy-free pizza with tomatoes, onion, garlic, basil, red wine, balsamic vinegar and a dash of maple syrup; Sliced Tomato & 5 Cheeses – Ripe tomato complimented by small-batch handcrafted cheeses, including mozzarella, smoked cheddar, sage and asiago cheeses;Twisted 6 Cheese – Features small-batch asiago, smoked cheddar, fresh mozzarella and sage cheese from Vermont, topped with red onion slices and a bit of parsley.
  • Other Flavors include: Sun-Dried Tomato & Mushroom,
Tomato Sauce & Three Cheese,
Ionian Awakening (tomato sauce, four cheeses, red onion, Kalamata olive, garlic, fresh rosemary)
Vegan HarvestCheese & Herb and the Revolution (caramelized onions, mushrooms, cheeses, and herbs)

I gave the second pizza to my neighbors,  Traci and Tony, who feed me from IMG_0255time to time (though not as often as they used to before this —-> happened).

Here’s what they had to say:

“Very easy, and fast to cook even for the takeout queen. Tasted surprisingly good too. A little greasy. It was actually very good. Impressed by the ingredients, too.”

After pizza, I made my way over to my living room sofa and proceeded to catch up on all the tv shows I taped but hadn’t watched all week.  It was still raining and I could think of no reason to leave the house.  It was a perfect, lazy, no stress Saturday.

(Oh, and just in case it wasn’t clear, this is a sponsored post for American Flatbread, although the opinions are my own.)

Hi Eleanore! I just discovered your blog, and I’m actually writing about my dating life, and I think your view on singlehood is the fresh breath that I need! I hope you check me out and I’ll be back for more!

  2. I’d be willing to try this, if it’s truly preservative free. Many frozen pizza brands include ingredients that are also found in styrofoam, which doesn’t sounds very appetizing! Thanks for sharing.

That lazy day sounds sooooo great.

Thanks for the honest feedback on the American Flatbread Eleanore. I’m going to try it as, if I’m going to eat any frozen food, I prefer it to be preservative free. I don’t eat a lot of frozen foods however; they are convenient for when you don’t feel like cooking.

Incidentally, I’m in the Washington DC area and myself and many friends had the exact same “lazy Saturday”. I believe that’s what those days are for!

Flatbread was Delish. And earned you a dinner tonight. Mention that :)
