The theme for this edition of Fab Friday Finds is c o l o r. For each, the color of “the find” is an integral component of why I love it…except for the last one.
Gray
Cover Gray is a lifesaver for me every morning. Most of my hair is not gray, but the edges of my hairline are. It seems silly to dye my whole head when only 10% of it is in need. It’s a waste of money + unhealthy for my hair, but that’s what I did for awhile. One morning a lightbulb went off in my head and I decided to see what would happen if I used brown mascara to cover my gray edges. It worked a little bit, but the brush kept getting tangled in my hair. It seemed to me that there had to be a better solution…and there is. It’s a lipstick-like thingy that comes in a range of hair colors, and you use it like you’d use a crayon to color your hair. It covers gray and its called Cover Gray. I would have liked them to have come up with a more interesting name, but I guess that’s my background in advertising talking. To me, it’s like me naming my dog, Dog. Anyway, I love this product. See my before-and-after pics –taken only minutes apart– and you’ll see why. Easy…and it works.
White
White Brooks Brothers no-iron button-down dress shirts. I have about 10 of them. They’re a wardrobe basic for me because they go with just about everything, tucked and untucked, with pearls, pretty colorful scarves, and fun costume jewelry. I wear them with jeans, slacks, leather pants, pencil skirts, cut-off shorts…everything.
They’re NO-IRON! Crisp white cotton that can be machine-washed but don’t require ironing. These shirts were made for me. (I don’t have an ironing board). Their styling is great, too. They’re tapered just enough to look fitted and not boxy, but not so much that they show my gut on my bloated days.
Gold
When I treated myself to these gold Jimmy Choo sandals a few years ago for my birthday, part of me thought I had lost my mind. They were much too expensive; why was I paying that much for a few straps? There’s no logical answer except I wanted them and I liked they way they looked on me. Now, all these many years later, I’m still wearing them and so, if I amortize the cost of them over the years, they’re actually pretty cheap (at least that’s what I tell myself). These are some of my favorite sandals because, like my white shirts, I wear them with just about anything. They make any dress prettier and they dress up any otherwise casual outfit. When I’m feeling lazy, I wear them with jeans and consider myself quite dressed up.
Yellow
I discovered this delicious frozen cocktail just a week or two ago. The recipe was in an article by Mario Batali, a renowned chef. It’s a fantastic combination of cocktail and dessert, and it’s so refreshing that it’s dangerous. It’s called sgroppino and it’s easy to pretend it’s an ice cream slushy, and not a drink with two kinds of alcohol. They’re great for entertaining because they look and taste really special…and they are because who doesn’t love alcohol and ice cream?
- Pour one cup of iced vodka into a blender
- Add a pint of lemon gelato
- 1/2 bottle of prosecco
- 1 cup of ice cubes
- Blend until frothy and smooth
- Pour into chilled glasses
- Start smiling!
Yet again, your “finds” are helpful, handy and fun. It’s clear you enjoy writing your blog because you put so much effort in it and really give us a lot of useful information and ideas. Keep up the good work and keep us looking and feeling better.
Thank you, Ms Blair
